Len has entertained millions of viewers as the leading judge of Strictly Come Dancing in the UK and Dancing with the Stars in the USA. During Len’s highly successful competitive dancing career he won many prestigious competitions. His combination of charm and experience have made him a hugely popular television personality.
Founding his own dance school led to him becoming an Examiner for the National Association of Teachers of Dance, a Fellow of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance, Adjudicator for the World Dance Council, British Dance Council, Ballroom Dancers’ Federation and a founder member of the International Dance Sport Judges and Trainers Association.
With his extensive knowledge of Ballroom and Latin American dancing and competing, judging and teaching, he is one of the most well-respected professionals in his field.
Len has received various awards in the UK, including a Life Achievement Award for his work in dance and a Carl Alan Award, the dance world’s equivalent of the Oscars.
Additional appearances on UK TV include Celebrity Weakest Link (which he won) and a broad range of other popular and successful shows.
In America, Len has appeared on Entertainment Tonight, E Entertain, Good Morning America and Larry King Live.
He has also released an instructional DVD ‘Dance with Len Goodman’ and has written his autobiography, Better Late than Never.
In October 2011 Goodman appeared on the 2011 series of the UK’s celebrity genealogy series Who Do You Think You Are?, in which he discovered that one of his maternal ancestors was a silk-weaver who died a pauper in the Bethnal Green workhouse.
For the 100th anniversary of the voyage and sinking of RMS Titanic, Goodman hosted a three-part BBC One documentary, shown from 30 March – 9 April 2012. It capitalised on his experience as a welder at Harland and Wolff. It was broadcast in the United States by PBS. Len interviewed descendants of survivors and introduced viewers to memorials and significant sites in the United Kingdom.
