Shohei Ohtani Announces New Balance Deal, Says He Wants to ‘Change the Game’ with Activewear Brand
Shohei Ohtani, a star for the Los Angeles Angels, has entered the shoe market!
The first player to ever be chosen to the All-MLB First Team as both a pitcher and a hitter has inked a long-term contract with the athletic footwear company, New Balance revealed on Tuesday. He is a two-time MLB all-star.
Ohtani, 28, expressed his excitement at becoming a part of the New Balance family as he pursues his baseball career and other ventures.
The NBA players Kawhi Leonard and Zach LaVine are also on the New Balance roster. The all-star pitcher says he chose the company due of its “impressive production innovation” and “being a real brand that lets their athletes to be themselves,” according to a release.
Shohei Ohtani expressed excitement about working with New Balance “to transform the game.”
Shohei Ohtani is “a once-in-a-generation athlete who fits with our bigger portfolio of athletes in approach to respective sports,” according to Neil Brooks, Head of Baseball Sports Marketing for the company.
Brooks continued, “Shohei is never satisfied and is constantly pushing himself and his team to be better while letting his on-field performance speak for itself. We look forward to building the relationship and helping Shohei achieve his dreams and in the process truly change the game as we know it.”
As part of the agreement, New Balance is introducing the 574 Cleat, a limited-edition update to one of the company’s iconic models that makes it suitable for use in the field.
Shohei Ohtani is currently getting ready for both the upcoming World Baseball Classic, when he will captain Team Japan, and the start of the new season with the Angels on March 30. In October, he will also be a free agent and probably demand another hefty contract.
