Clare Balding is an instantly recognisable BBC sports presenter, journalist, and jockey, known for her passion for sport and engaging presenting style. Born in 1971 in Kingsclere, Hampshire, Clare was a leading amateur flat jockey in 1989 and 1990, and Champion Lady Rider in 1990.

Her broadcasting career began in 1994 with BBC National Radio, where she contributed to 5 Live, Radio 1, Radio 2, and Radio 4. Clare currently presents the popular walking programme Ramblings on BBC Radio 4 and covers Wimbledon for 5 Live.

In 1995, Clare made her television debut during Royal Ascot and became the BBC’s lead horse racing presenter in 1997, fronting major events such as the Grand National. Additionally, she has reported from four Olympic Games and presented Grandstand from a Rugby League Challenge Cup semi-final, becoming the face of BBC’s rugby league coverage.

Beyond sport, Clare joined Countryfile in 2011, co-hosting the popular BBC show alongside Matt Baker.
