Joanna Lumley is one of Britain’s most distinguished actresses, presenters and campaigners, celebrated for her elegance, wit and decades of contribution to television and film. Born on 1 May 1946 in Srinagar, Kashmir, then part of British India, Lumley spent her early childhood overseas before her family settled in England.
She began her career as a model during the 1960s before moving into acting. After appearing in numerous television dramas and films, she achieved widespread recognition through her role as Purdey in the action series The New Avengers.
